Cutting a tree's top back to stubs leads to weak, fast regrowth and decay. We reduce height with proper cuts instead.
No lion-tailing
Stripping all the inner branches and leaving tufts at the ends makes limbs whippy and more likely to break.
No over-thinning
We don't take more of the canopy than the tree can handle in one season, so it stays healthy and strong.

When is the best time to prune trees in Lafayette?
Late winter through early spring is ideal for most trees here, including live oaks, because trees are dormant and heal quickly when spring growth starts. Dead, broken, or hazardous limbs should be removed any time of year, especially before hurricane season.
How often should my trees be trimmed?
Most mature shade trees benefit from pruning every three to five years. Young trees do best with lighter structural pruning more often while their shape is still forming.
Do you top trees?
No. Topping, cutting the top of a tree back to stubs, weakens trees and causes fast, poorly attached regrowth that breaks easily in storms. We reduce height and weight with proper pruning cuts instead.
Can you trim branches over my roof?
Yes. Raising and clearing limbs away from roofs, gutters, and siding is one of our most common jobs. It also helps keep leaves off the roof and lets more light into the yard.
Will pruning hurt my tree?
Correct pruning helps a tree. We make clean cuts at the right spots, don't remove more of the canopy than the tree can handle, and avoid practices like topping and lion-tailing that damage trees.
