What is tree cabling?
Cabling connects two or more limbs or trunks high in the canopy with a strong cable. It limits how far they can move apart in wind, which takes stress off a weak union.
What is tree bracing?
Bracing uses threaded steel rods installed through a split or weak union lower in the tree. Rods give rigid support where cables alone aren't enough. Cabling and bracing are often used together.
Will cabling hurt my tree?
When installed correctly, the small holes for hardware are minor compared to the risk of the tree splitting apart. We place hardware carefully so the tree can grow around it.
How long does cabling last?
Support systems are designed to last for years, but trees keep growing. We recommend having cables and braces inspected regularly and adjusted as the tree grows.
Is my tree a good candidate for cabling?
Cabling works best on healthy trees with a structural weakness, like a V-shaped split or a heavy limb. If a tree is badly decayed or dying, removal may be the safer choice, and we'll be honest with you about that.
